Hello, and welcome to marshaltaylor.com. Let me tell you a little about myself – I live in Las Vegas, Nevada with my wife Patsy. She is a retired schoolteacher, and I am a retired civil servant.
Although I was born in Arkansas, I have lived all my life in Las Vegas, which makes me more or less a native. According to local folk lore, living in Las Vegas for five years makes someone a Las Vegan, while ten years makes one a long term resident. Therefore, using that formula, living here for 65+ years makes me a native.
As far as education, I have an AA in Horticulture from the Community College of Southern Nevada, and a BA in Fine Art, and a Masters in Special Education from University of Nevada Las Vegas. This carefully chosen academic path should have landed me a nice job driving a truck, but instead I became a Parks Planner and grant writer for the City of North Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Department.
Since I am covering my background, I should also tell you that I spent three years in the Army when I was a young kid. After that, I spent almost a year at the test site working on radiation dosimetry, then for some time I worked as an art director for a small publication, and then as a photographer for a tabloid here in Las Vegas before I went to work for North Las Vegas.
I am a daydreamer, an avid reader, and I like puns. I also like puppies and kittens so long as they don’t follow me home. I started learning how to write after I retired and have been working on my craft since then. My favorite writers are all over the board – Vonnegut, Hammett, Hemingway, Hillerman, and Barr.
I am a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, where I practice period fencing and occasionally, calligraphy.
I hope that this should give you enough information about me. If you have any questions, please drop me a line.
