It looks like spring and summer are going to come early this year. We in the Southwest gave winter a short shrift that lasted only a couple of weeks; now trees are blooming, birds singing, and all that rot. It’s a good time to sit out on the patio with a cup of coffee, because pretty soon it will be too hot for that. Once again, I have all sorts of plans; things I can do to make life easier for myself, or at least more adventuresome. This is good, even though I know most of what I am thinking about will never happen, but it’s good to dream.
There is pollen in the air, so I sneeze every so often. One year, I gave myself a temporary allergic reaction to pine pollen. At that time, I usually parked our car under the boughs of a pine tree. One morning, I came out to find that someone had apparently egged our car. There was egg yolk, or what I thought was yolk, on the windshield. I wiped my finger through it and found a powder rather than a sticky mess. Of course, I had to sniff the powder to see what it smelled like. It was Pine Pollen! I sneezed my head off for an entire week until the pollen count went down enough to set me free. I have not had a recurrence of that reaction since then, and have no problems with pine trees. I also never wipe my fingers through yellow powder and sniff it to see what it smells like. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?
Anyway, it’s spring, so it’s time to go out and dance in the wind, sip a coffee, sing a little, and enjoy life while we can. Enjoy!
